NTTF introduces online practical classes to students during COVID-19 Pandemic

Introduction:

Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), India’s premier institution offers a wide range of industry integrated programs at the Graduate and Post-Graduate level. NTTF has always focused on offering vocational training and education to the youth in India. It operates from 16 centers and delivers high standards of corporate and vocational training with an impressive industry-connect. At one of their facilities in Bangalore, NTTF has deployed Xenvis’ Augmented Reality Solution to remotely deliver online practical classes. The solution has helped NTTF maintain its high-quality standards despite the disruption caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

Business Problem:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing has become the norm in many parts of the world, impacting the way companies and institutes operate on a day-to-day basis. Educational & Training Institutions are expected to minimize contact among students/faculty and create infrastructure that promotes contactless learning. They have also had to transform the entire curriculum into online based classroom teaching and NTTF too had to scale up their infrastructure to meet the demands of the new world. While existing video conferencing tools enable continuity of education by way of online classrooms, they have the limitation of only being able to cover theory sessions. Technical training institutes like NTTF needed a solution that can also enable online delivery of practical sessions, which is an essential part of their curriculum.

Solution:

Xenvis provided a solution which enabled trainers to carry out interactive practical classes by introducing equipment, procedures and by showcasing the results to students attending from different parts of the country. The solution consists of a pair of Augmented Reality (AR) glasses and conferencing software platforms. The solution establishes a two way live audio & video connection between the trainer and multiple students. The trainer wears the Augmented Reality Smart Glasses, demonstrates the experiment setup, shares observations and test results in a complete hands-free manner. Students login into the software platform and experience the first person view of the experiment being carried out in real-time on their individual devices (laptops/tablets/smart phones) and can interact with the trainer to ask questions and clarify doubts. The entire online session is recorded on the software platform and is saved for later viewing. The software platform is a fully cloud hosted solution. The solution also helps to build an online database of practical experiments, which can be viewed by students at any time and from any location.

NTTF was able to ensure continuity of practical classes to over 800 students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even in the post-COVID era, NTTF expects to benefit from this solution by enabling cross-campus collaboration. This will allow them to share expensive equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited number of users due to constraints in time and geographical distances.
